Why do you truly want to get married?

Bismillah;

Choosing to marry is one of the biggest decisions we will ever make. Yet too many people rush into it without properly considering their reasons. Taking time to reflect deeply can make all the difference between a strong foundation and constant struggles later on.

The most important element before marriage is your intention. Why do you truly want to get married? Some young people say they feel lonely, while others hope their future spouse will fix their problems or heal their emotional wounds. These are not solid reasons. Your spouse is not a therapist and expecting them to solve all your personal issues puts unfair pressure on the relationship. You must work on yourself first and become ready before inviting someone else into your life.

Readiness is not only about having enough money. It includes three key areas.

  • Emotionally, you need to control your anger, learn to express your feelings openly, and master the art of apologising and forgiving.
  • Socially, focus on becoming a good listener with strong communication skills so you can connect well with your spouse and their family.
  • Intellectually and spiritually, view marriage as an act of worship. Approach it with excellence, knowing that Allah is watching, just as you strive to perfect your prayers.

When we prepare in these ways, we enter marriage with realistic expectations and a sincere heart. This simple but powerful preparation helps create the strong foundation every successful marriage needs.
